The University of Magdeburg Summer School invites you on a captivating two-week journey through the city known for its Magdeburg Hemisphere Experiment. During the program, you will explore different departments of the university and work with professors and PhD students to delve into exciting research topics. Real science is waiting for you around every corner. In addition, we will accompany you on visits to local companies, on walks through cities that are UNESCO World Heritage Sites and on exciting cultural encounters in the vibrant capital Berlin. Join us for an unforgettable summer full of discoveries and enlightenment.

Summer School Program
The International Summer School lasts two weeks and combines intensive learning with exciting discoveries in Germany. Here you can get an insight into what your stay could look like.
Day 1-5
Arrival in Germany – Welcome to Magdeburg!
From Beijing to Berlin - and then our adventure begins! After arriving in Berlin, we take the bus to Magdeburg and check into our accommodation. After a short break, we take a walk along the Elbe towards the city center. In the evening, a festive welcome dinner awaits us, where we can get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere.
Opening Ceremony – Discover the University!
The day begins with the official opening ceremony at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. We then receive an introduction to the faculties and the campus. This gives us a first impression of the university and allows us to familiarize ourselves with the surroundings.
Virtual Reality & Research – Visit to the Elbedome
We visit the Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation (IFF) in Magdeburg, which researches innovative technologies for the digital and intelligent working world. In the Virtual Development and Training Centre (VDTC) we experience how future technologies are developed and tested in Industry 4.0.
Secrets of Memory – Visit to the Leibniz Institute
​We visit the Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation (IFF) in Magdeburg, which researches innovative technologies for the digital and intelligent working world. In the Virtual Development and Training Centre (VDTC) we experience how future technologies are developed and tested in Industry 4.0.
Day 6
Wernigerode – Discover the colorful town in the Harz Mountains
Wernigerode is a picturesque town in the Harz Mountains, known for its colourful
Half-timbered houses and its fairytale atmosphere. We explore the old town, ride the historic narrow-gauge railway and visit the impressive castle. Afterwards there is time to stroll leisurely through the small streets and enjoy the local cuisine.
Day 7
Automotive world up close – A day in the Autostadt Wolfsburg
The Autostadt in Wolfsburg is more than just the Volkswagen Group's visitor center - it is an interactive world of experience all about automobiles. We explore the 28-hectare site with its museums, exhibitions and test tracks. If you want, you can even test drive one of the latest vehicles yourself!
Day 8-12
Medical technology of the future – visit to the STIMULATE research center
The STIMULATE Center is a cooperation between the University of Magdeburg, Siemens Healthineers and other partners. Research is carried out here on innovative diagnostic and treatment methods for cancer, heart and neurological diseases. We get an exclusive insight into current projects and experience first-hand how medical technology is changing the future of patient care.
Green Citadel
Explore Magdeburg's most extraordinary house by the artist Hundertwasser! Afterwards, go bowling for a few hours.
Closing ceremony
At the end of the summer school, the closing ceremony takes place. Each participant receives an official certificate and the best participants are honored with special prizes.
Day 12-14
Berlin
Discover Berlin on your own
Berlin is waiting for us! With a hop-on hop-off double-decker bus we can explore the capital flexibly and at our own pace. If you like, you can also take a one-hour boat tour to experience Berlin from a completely new perspective.
Return trip to China
After two unforgettable weeks full of knowledge, adventure and new friendships, we are starting our journey home. From Berlin we are flying back to Beijing - with many unforgettable memories in our luggage!
